Mike and Bonnie Triplett can see the light at the end of the tunnel for the recession.
Or more appropriately in their case, they can see the lighthouse signaling a return to prosperity.
The Tripletts own and operate Lighthouse Lodge, 4866 N. Boxman Place, a Lake Shafer bed and breakfast/resort that they expect to thrive this season.
“In 2010, we are very optimistic that the economy is turning around,” said Mike Triplett. “Our early bookings are up, we have two weddings booked this year and two weddings booked next year already; and numerous reunions.
The Tripletts opened Lighthouse Lodge in 2006 after extensive building and remodeling.
“We purchased the property in 1993 planning to retire here and make it our permanent residence,” Mike Triplett said.
“In 2005 is when we decided to take on this venture,” Bonnie Triplett added.
The Tripletts have spent decades in the service industry, owning Gabriel’s Pub in Melrose Park, Ill. for 23 years.
The Tripletts began bringing their Pub employees to Lake Shafer as a weekend retreat.
“When we retired from our restaurant … I missed the hospitality, I missed making people happy. I like cooking and we decided to share our property,” Bonnie Triplett said.
